The possibility of this city being at its best can sometimes get into every inch of management based on annoyance, compromise and productivity. Mumbai is a very important part of Maharashtra, without Mumbai, Maharashtra would be just another state with lots of flora and historic visits. Mumbai made Maharashtra famous; it made this state a complete dynamic of diversity. ‘Dynamic of diversity’ is quite a broad concept if I dwell on its true facts and understandings. Two questions that I always ask myself, they are ponderous enough to make me want to divide this chapter into two halves; what Mumbai is? And What Mumbai actually is? This isn’t about the answers that we are supposed to give; it is about the answer that every living soul in this city has to answer without having to answer it pre-planned. Such questions have to be asked in a hurry, the answer expected usually is long, brief and informative but the actual answer is short, only by words, not sentences. The short ones are usually related to words of fantasy, imagination and pure creativity. It is the way a person would like to tag Mumbai with. Just like how we tag photographs, articles, websites and books, there are various words that are fitting enough to tag this city. The long ones are usually related to the truth, actual facts, honest and blunt remarks about Mumbai. It is the way a person personally visualizes Mumbai from past to present, and sometimes even the future; it is a long and touching description not about Mumbai wholly but also about the way that person has taken control of himself/herself and adapted to this wonderful city.
Mumbai was built on what was once a cluster of seven islands: Bombay Island, Parel, Mazagoan, Mahim, Colaba, Worli and Old Woman’s Island (also known as Little Colaba). It was not exactly known when these islands were discovered and established, but some sediment found along the coastal areas suggests that Mumbai was discovered sometime around the Stone Age. 2000 years ago, the Koli fishing community started to occupy the islands. Mumbai (formerly Bombay) has got through the Maurya Empire- European Rule- Independence- Maharashtra Movement- several bombings and terrorist attacks lately, above it all, it has emerged to become a very powerful, united, festive and well-spirited city. One thing’s for sure, nothing can ever beat this city’s morale and force; the people have enthusiastically made believe certain conditions and situations for surviving Mumbai that now they seem to pull through misfortunes with confidence and bravery.
People from all over the world decide to live in a city as perplexing and sophisticated as Mumbai. Here, you find all kinds of levels of contrivances and very strange yet earthly modifications all over the city; the people are sociable, interactive and friendly, only if their mood is good, jolly and calm; the atmosphere is always welcoming, nothing is ever to be said about it because that’s one thing that cannot be either changed or taken away or even hidden. Mumbai is the financial and commercial capital of the country, being ranked 6th among the top 10 global cities on billionaire count, the 3rd most expensive office in the market and also ranked among the fastest cities in the country for business, it offers a high standard of living and also witnesses many migrants from all over the country. Having to build a city from nothing to something, the people of Mumbai from independence strove hard to construct tall buildings, navigable bridges and road, affordable markets, parks, driveways & highways, etc. There were many projects taken up to make Mumbai architecturally strong and notable; many ideas to construct roads, railways, highways, bridges, etc. in a much more advance and better way. The equipments were modified, methods were revised and the people become even more advanced and forward in their work. Western Education taught them subjects beyond imagination and they utilized it in a much drastic manner. Certain communities took the initiative to educate to poor and helpless children and teach them about their own country and what it has to offer to them. Even now, many respected men and women are striving hard to educate villagers about farming, modern technique in agriculture, trade, etc. which is not only instructing them to move forward in business but also to discipline them out education and the importance of it in our lives.
